12th-May-2008 03:59 pm - Reaching out to user who leave prematurely
We are trying to figure out a way to reach out to people who abandon our registration path. My boss wants a pop-up and I have the obvious reservations about that.

I have also worked out that even if we put up a JS alert, we still cannot give them an alternate URL to click and they will just continue to their destination.

To complicate matters. We only want to put up a message to those who are leaving the site, not the page. Do you guys have any ideas?
11th-May-2008 07:29 pm - themes
Hi,

I have a web page with a theme and a skin created using ASP.net.

Once a button is clicked, I would like the theme's settings to change, but I'm not sure how to do this.

Is it possible to have theme settings inside an OnClick? Or would I somehow have to link to the Web.config file through the onClick to make the change?

Thanks
10th-May-2008 06:40 pm - PHP and Perl sessions
Is it possible for PHP and Perl to share session data? I have a web application written in PHP that sends POST data via Ajax to a Perl script, but for security reasons, the Perl script shouldn't handle the data if the user is not logged into their account. If I can't share session data directly, is there something I can do within the database (a new table or something) that would indicate to both languages that the user has authenticated to my site?
8th-May-2008 04:23 pm - displaying statistics on a website
In an attempt to grow my skills, and maybe learn a bit about php I would like to create or tinker with something similar to this:

http://morale.erikbenson.com/ or

I would like for data to be entered somehow and then displayed in a chart like this spiffy one: http://www.alistapart.com/d/accessibledata/example-timeline.html

I know this probably involves PHP and a mysql database - both things i want to learn alot more about.

I was wondering if there is actually anything out there like this already that is open source?

Thanks!
8th-May-2008 01:05 am - Seeking freelance web developer for commercial website
I'm about to launch a business.  I have a website up, but it has some serious flaws.  I'm an IT guy (Unix systems admin), but not a web developer.  So, I'm having a lot of trouble finishing the website, and I'm looking to hire a freelance web developer.  Someone was kind enough to suggest I post here.  Here are some details and requirements:

- Knowledge of flash. A flash movie currently exists on the page that needs heavy modification.

- Knowledge of CSS and HTML. Modification to the page requires expert knowledge of both.

- Good design skills. The current design is far from perfect, and many improvements can and should be made. The ability to spot other improvements that I may have missed would be a huge plus.

- Good enough skills with Photoshop or other image editing software to be able to work with the website images.

- Work with paypal payment and subscription integration to sell services is a huge plus

- Knowledge of how to increase google organic listing is a huge plus

If you're interested please email me at support@beaconvps.com as soon as possible so we can make arrangements and decide if it's a good fit.

4th-May-2008 07:43 am - Product Listings Help
I could REALLY use some help/information/insight on a problem I'm having.

I've got a huge product list and I'm wondering if there's a way to take the product list, have it show up in a table and make separate pages? Such as maybe 20 items in a table, then at the bottom it has Page 1,2,3,4...etc?
I'm not really familiar with perl but I've seen it work with a search engine script.

If this makes any sense lemme know. If not I'm just going to make the pages individually. I just want to cut down on time.

Thanks in advance!

Hey, I hope this is the right comm to ask this. I'm a php programmer currently but my boss has approached me about possibly taking over some of the linux and windows admin duties so he dosent have to do it. Im comfortable with the linu enviro and am familiar with things like awk, sed, cron jobs, bash scripting, etc. and most of the windows admin stuff is knowing where to point and click in the various management consoles and such. Do you all have any recommended sites or books that I should read to get a better idea of what all I need to know? Thanks!

2nd-May-2008 01:34 pm - DNS Leaking and bad name serves
Hi all.. My boss just got off the phone with a company that was doing SEO for us. Basically he called me just to rant about their crappy service.

He wanted to know why our sites weren't getting more traffic with their services and they threw a couple terms at him that I'm unfamiliar with.

Apparently we have a bad name server, and our dns is leaking? I've tried googling this but I haven't really had much luck in figuring out exactly what that means, and how it would effect our site's ranks.

Any tips, or even pointers towards the right topics to search for? thanks!

30th-Apr-2008 01:50 pm - simple CSS page layout
Hello folks, I know this might seem elementary, but I'd like to stick to CSS to produce the following layout:

Photobucket
Do not hurt me; right now the only way I got it to work was putting the main divs into a 3-part table. Here's the code.

Resources such as this one have been helpful in other CSS positioning situations, but not this one. The biggest problem is that most solutions do not work across both browsers. I would so appreciate guidance, thanks!

29th-Apr-2008 09:55 pm - HELP PLEASE...ASAP!
I'm creating a webpage using Dreamweaver CS3 on a Mac. I entered some text ("enter here") inside of an AP Div tag, and I want to make it into a link. I know that to make an image a link, you draw a hotspot (rectangle, oval and polygonal). However, I just noticed that when I try doing this do a body of text, the hotspot buttons disappear from the toolbar. How do I make bodies of text into a link? Can someone please explain how in a list of steps?

Thank you!
